ORLANDO – Scientists from the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit presented data demonstrating the feasibility of long-term, low-dose adjuvant chemotherapy, which resulted in fewer tumor recurrences and cancer metastases in patients with locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. BUFFALO, NY- Patients diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma who become resistant to standard therapies may have a new treatment option. Scientists in the Lymphoma Translational Research Laboratory at Roswell Park Cancer Institute analyzed the mechanisms to overcome treatment resistance, including a new drug combination. Francisco J. PITTSBURGH, May 30, 2009 – Patients undergoing treatment for advanced head and neck cancers may respond well to the addition of gefinitib to chemotherapy, according to a study sponsored by the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group and chaired by Ethan Argiris, MD, associate professor of medicine, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and co-leader of the Head and Neck Cancer Program of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI). The results will be disclosed at the 45th annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) on May 30 in Orlando, Fla.
