LITTLE ROCK – A University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) researcher on the cutting edge of nanotechnology has been awarded $2.3 million in three grants to further groundbreaking developments in the prevention of lethal cancer metastasis and take his team’s findings to the first clinical trial of its kind.

LITTLE ROCK – Survivors of ovarian and other gynecological cancers will be celebrated during a day-long retreat at the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).
Scheduled for 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 26, “Shout About the Disease that Whispers” will promote complementary and conventional approaches in the care of women with gynecological cancers. The retreat is hosted by the Just Among Women support group and is open to women with ovarian and other gynecological cancers and their support persons.
Cost to attend is $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Advance registration is encouraged by Sept. 18 by calling the Cancer Institute’s Clinical Oncology Social Work Department at (501) 686-8145.

After recently touring the Phase I unit at the Karmanos Cancer Center, representatives from The Kroger Co. wanted to show appreciation to the patients. A basket of Kroger bakery cookies was sent to the patients of the Phase I unit, which were then hand delivered by the Junior Volunteers at Karmanos. BUFFALO, NY – Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) has appointed two physicians to the Department of Diagnostic Radiology. James M. Gannon, MD, will serve in the Division of Nuclear Medicine and Thomas J. Laudico, DO, will join the faculty in the Division of Body Imaging.
