Another Kroger act of kindness

August 19th, 2009 by admin

Karmanos Cancer Institute After recently touring the Phase I unit at the Karmanos Cancer Center, representatives from The Kroger Co. wanted to show appreciation to the patients. A basket of Kroger bakery cookies was sent to the patients of the Phase I unit, which were then hand delivered by the Junior Volunteers at Karmanos. Kroger plans to continue providing treats for the Phase I unit in months to come. A clinical trial is a research study that evaluates new approaches to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer, and Phase I trials evaluate how a new drug should be given (by mouth, injected into the blood, or injected into the muscle), how often, and what dose is safe. This is the latest example of Kroger’s commitment to Karmanos and its patients. The Kroger Co. strongly supports women’s health initiatives and has partnered with Karmanos to raise funds for the Gail Purtan Ovarian Cancer Research Fund and breast cancer research at Karmanos.

You can join Kroger in its efforts by shopping at your local Kroger store this fall for products and initiatives that support Karmanos. During the month of September, ask your Kroger cashier how you can donate $1, $5 or $10 or drop your spare change into the coin boxes to support the Gail Purtan Cancer Research Fund at Karmanos. Throughout October, shoppers can purchase a special edition cookbook sponsored by Kroger and 100.3 WNIC. For more information on upcoming Kroger events or other similar programs, contact Maureen Bender, manager of Corporate Relations at Karmanos, at benderm@karmanos.org.
