Donate to the Roswell Park Blood Center and Win a “Game of Life” Gift Package
You Could Win Four Tickets to the Buffalo/Miami Game
BUFFALO, NY – When you help save the life of a cancer patient with a donation of blood or platelets at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI), you will have a chance to win a “Game of Life” gift package from the RPCI Blood Donor Center.
Donors presenting from now through August 31, 2009, are eligible to receive one entry for the “Game of Life” package. The package includes four tickets to the Buffalo/Miami game November 29, 2009; free roundtrip limo service, compliments of Status Limousine; an autographed Bills jersey; and a free tailgate party hosted by 97 Rock, the voice of the Buffalo Bills. Donors also will be entered into weekly drawings for VIP training camp tickets, which include complimentary lunch and special autograph signings.
Roswell Park cancer patients require blood and platelet donations almost every day as part of their care. Platelets are the blood cells in your body that help stop bleeding. Treatments such as chemotherapy leave patients with dangerously low levels of platelets. Without platelets and the donors who give them, patients are at increased risk of bleeding even before they can benefit from the treatments. To have a chance at life, platelet transfusions are necessary for the patient’s healthy recovery.
A donation of platelets, called plateletpheresis, is similar to donating whole blood. The simple, safe process takes approximately 90 minutes. Blood is removed from the donor and passed through a machine that separates and collects the platelets. The donor’s body quickly replaces the removed platelets.
The RPCI Blood Donor Center is open six days per week with flexible daily hours of operation. To donate, you must be at least 17 years of age and weigh at least 110 pounds.
